Born on 23 November 1986 in Chennai, Naga Chaitanya is the son of actor and entrepreneur Akkineni Nagarjuna and Lakshmi Daggubati. He attended PSBB School, Chennai. He did his acting studies from an acting school in Mumbai and acting classes in Hollywood Studios, California. During his childhood, his parents got divorced, but remarried later. Chaitanya has one half-brother, Akhil Akkineni, who is born to his father and stepmother. He was never interested in acting; however, he was spotted at his father’s film King’s music launch. He later changed his mind and tried his luck into acting.

In 2009, Naga made his acting debut with the film Josh, which garnered him accolades for his performance. He next featured in the romantic drama Ye Maaya Chesave. The film became a box office hit. His next film was Dhada, which was not hailed as much as his other movies. He appeared in films including Tadakha, Manam, Autonagar Surya, Oka Laila Kosam, Sahasam Swasaga Sagipo, Rarandoi Veduka Chudham, Yuddham Sharanam, Shailaja Reddy Alludu, Savyasachi and Majili. Among his other wins, he has won 1 Filmfare Awards South, 1 CineMAA Awards, 1 SIIMA Awards and 1 Nandi Award; under categories like Best Male Debut, Best Actor and Supporting Actor.

Naga Chaitanya has a brother named Akhil Akkineni and five cousins include Rana Daggubati and Abhiram Daggubati. Actor Daggubati Venkatesh and Film Producers Daggubati Suresh Babu and Akkineni Venkat are his uncle. After an on-again and off-again relationship with actress Samantha Ruth Prabhu, Naga got engaged with Samantha on 29 January 2017 and got married in Goa, in a Hindu religious ceremony on 6 October and a Christian ceremony on 7 October. Fans lovingly call the couple as ChaySam.
